Your first site with Mehtagent Lite

This walk-through takes a little while the first time, and most of that is Claude working while you read what it's doing. By the end you'll have a one-page site with a preview link that only the people you send it to will see.

Before you start: put an AI on your Mac, once

Lite works with Claude, Codex, Gemini and hundreds of other models, and needs one of them on your Mac. Claude is the quickest start, so this box installs it. If you use another, skip the box and pick yours in Setup › Your AI. This box is the only time you use Terminal for Lite, unless Setup later shows a Homebrew row (step 1 says what to do then).

  1. Open Terminal: in Finder, go to Applications, then Utilities, and double-click Terminal.
  2. Copy this line, paste it into Terminal and press Return:
   curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
  1. When it has finished, type claude and press Return. A browser window opens; sign in there with your Claude account.
  2. Close Terminal. You won't need it again.

If you already use Claude Code in Terminal, you can skip this box.

1. Set up the three things Lite needs first

Open Mehtagent Lite from Applications, and it opens on Home with a short four-step tour. If you closed it, the ? at the top right opens it again. Its last card is about Funding, which is optional, and pressing Finish takes you to Setup. If you press Skip tour instead, click Setup, the last item in the menu on the left.

Setup is nine short steps, listed down the left (on a phone, a row along the top). Click a step to jump to it, or use Next and Skip for now to move along; the last step ends with Finish for now.

You can leave the other steps for now and come back to them when you need them.

2. Ask for the site

Click Home, and in the box describe the site the way you'd describe it to a friend who builds websites. We find a few concrete details help Claude more than a long brief, for example:

A one-page site for my bakery in Pune. Our name, opening hours, the three cakes we're known for, and a WhatsApp number for orders. Warm colours.

When you press Start, a sheet opens. If you skipped the Your projects step, it asks Where do your projects live? first. Click Use a Projects folder in Documents and Lite makes one, or Choose another folder…. Otherwise the sheet, titled Which folder should Claude work in?, suggests a name for the site's new folder, such as one-page-site-bakery-pune for the example above. You can change the name, and then you press Start here. Lite starts Claude in that folder and types your request in as soon as Claude is ready. Within about half a minute the new conversation opens by itself, and it also appears at the top of the Conversations list on the left (below Home on a phone).

3. Follow along

Back on Home, your new conversation shows under Is your AI waiting on you? whenever Claude needs something from you, and Answer opens it. It's also in the Conversations list on the left (below Home on a phone).

The conversation reads from top to bottom. Your own messages appear on the right-hand side of it and Claude's replies are plain text. Between them you see short lines such as "looked at 2 files · wrote index.html", and clicking one shows each step. The panel beside the conversation lists the files Claude created, under Made. In a narrow window that panel folds into Files, just above the box.

If Claude asks permission, for example "Claude wants to create index.html. Allow it?", a card appears above the box with a button for each choice. Allow lets Claude make that one change, while Allow every change from now on lets it keep going without asking for the rest of this conversation. If you're not sure, we'd suggest Allow, and then watch what it does next.

You can reply in the box at the bottom while Claude is running a conversation you started from Home. To give Claude your logo or a photo of your cakes, drop the file onto the conversation, paste it, or use the + button. Each file shows as a small tag above the box until you send.

4. Look at it, then change it

When Claude says the site is ready, press See my site to look at it. Ask for changes in the same box, such as "make the hours bigger" or "add a map link". Each change shows up as another line of steps, and the file under Made updates. See my site appears beside Put it online once Claude has made a page, and opens it in your browser.

5. Put it online

Putting a site online uses two free services: Vercel, which hosts websites, and GitHub, which keeps your site's files. You need an account with each, and the steps below create them as you go.

When the site looks right, click Put it online just above the box in the conversation. Ship, in the menu on the left, shows the same steps for all your projects at once. The first time, Lite shows three set-up steps: install the small helper that talks to Vercel, sign in to Vercel, and let Vercel use your GitHub. Only the current step has a button. The same three steps are Setup's GitHub and Vercel (free) step, so if you started them there, the ones you finished show as ticks here. When you click Sign in to Vercel, a short code appears right there on the page and a Vercel page opens in your browser. If you have no Vercel account yet, that page lets you create one. Continue with GitHub is the easiest way, and it creates the GitHub account too if you need one. Type the code on that page and approve, and the step turns into a tick by itself.

Then click Get a preview link. After a minute or so a preview link appears, and you should open it and look at the site the way a customer would. If you're happy with it, click Put this version live. That button appears only after a preview has finished, and it makes that exact preview the live site, even if Claude has changed files since.

If something goes wrong

  1. Claude isn't signed in, which Setup's Claude step shows as a red dot: press Sign in to Claude.
  2. Claude has never been set up on this Mac. Do the Terminal box at the top of this page once, then press Start again.
  3. Open Setup's Tools Mehtagent needs step and check that Keeps Claude working and Connects Mehtagent to Claude both have a green dot.
